Ministry Update: April 24th, 2008

Posted by Joel |

Its been a while since we've posted anything, and unfortunately I cant say much now as I haven't had time to collect my thoughts. Soon (hopefully next week) I will actually post something substantial and let you know what Jesus is doing in our life.

For now I wanted to share a story with you that was written by a member of our church. It is only one of the many stories that we are hearing about in which God is changing lives. I hope you are encouraged as we are. Many blessings to you as you continue to support Sarah and I.

Last week a unsaved friend of mine decided he would come check out this church I kept talking about. It just so happened the sermon was on creation. He was intrigued about the concepts and we stayed up talking about it until four in the morning. The next night I invited him to a friends house and we talked about what it meant to except Jesus into your heart. He stared in silence for a moment than began to weep. That night he gave his life to Christ and asked for forgiveness. He had spent the last six years smoking pot, drinking heavily and snorting coke to name a few. On Wednesday he was accepted to a year long drug treatment facility and would be admitted in one week. He was repentant of his sin and wanted to make things right with his family. We spent the next week visiting his family and friends. His parents are Christians and they were filled with tears when they heard what the Holy Spirit was doing. Last Sunday he was beginning to try to talk himself out of treatment, "It wont really help me, I'm not that bad"... that night we went to the evening service downtown; after the sermon paster Tim read from a passage of scripture and spoke about the significance of communion. Tears poured into his hands as he covered his face. As E-Pop began to play he shook violently as he sobbed, I asked him if he was ready to take communion, and if he understood what it meant. He wiped his nose and eyes, he nodded yes. He later told me as he took communion his legs felt like jello and he felt shivers down his spine, he tried further to explain it but couldn't find the words. He just said "these shakes were way worse than I ever got from coke." On The drive home he said, "I don't care if the treatment program is two years long if its what I need to turn my life around." Tomorrow he is heading off to a Christian treatment facility. I will not see him for a while but he knows he is not doing on his own strength alone.
