To know the Holy as a Christian is to study the attributes of God. These attributes are things that he has revealed to be true of himself. The number of attributes God has is debatable, but we must know that God in his infiniteness has attributes we could never comprehend. We must also remember that God, being God, is the creator, and we are the created, thus to bestow created qualities upon him would be to condescend his being. Humans deal in the realm of change, growing and learning and adjusting to life as it comes. As a result we are a sum of experiences that make up our character. God’s holiness on the other hand is not the product of experience and choice, it just exists. “An attribute, then, is not a part of God. It is how God is.”1
